On Monday, April 3, 2023 Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi – 52nd speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and the first woman to serve as speaker – entered a fascinating conversation with Nobel Prize–winning economist Paul Krugman, distinguished professor of economics and a senior scholar at the Stone Center on Socio-Economic Inequality at the CUNY Graduate Center. Pelosi discussed her time as a speaker, her long-term and short-term challenges, starting out with the dramatic events around the TARP – Troubled Assets Relief Program – of the financial crisis of 2008, setting a frame to compare it with much more recent events.
