In a timely new book, as the U.S. and China compete for dominance, Branko Milanovic asks: What are the prospects for a fairer world now that capitalism is the only game in town? What is the relationship between capitalism and democracy? Milanovic, author of Capitalism, Alone: The Future of the System That Rules the World, is a visiting presidential professor and senior scholar at the Stone Center for Socio-Economic Inequality at The Graduate Center. He speaks with Janet Gornick, professor of political science and sociology and director of the Stone Center; James Galbraith, Lloyd M. Bentsen Jr. Chair in Government/Business Relations at the LBJ School of Public Affairs, and Marshall Steinbaum, assistant professor of economics at the University of Utah and co-editor of After Piketty: The Agenda for Economics and Inequality.
