Longstanding inequalities in America’s education system have become widely exposed with the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic. How can we address the rampant racial disparities and produce more equal outcomes? What roles do technology and pedagogy play? Tressie McMillan Cottom, acclaimed author, sociologist at UNC-Chapel Hill, and co-host (with Roxane Gay) of the podcast Hear to Slay; and Carla Shedd, professor of sociology and urban education at The Graduate Center and author of Unequal City: Race, Schools and Perceptions of Injustice; discuss their visions with Cathy N. Davidson, founding director of the Futures Initiative at The Graduate Center and author of The New Education: How to Revolutionize the University to Prepare Students for a World in Flux.
